Get To Know Cold August
The RBM: You've had your site, PoetOfPain.com up for a while, but you've recently
re-released it in a sense. For those who haven't visited, what does it consist of and how is it
different from the other sites out there?
Cold August: Well, Poetofpain.com as of right now is focused on the forum that I've created. I'm
about to redo it again to get it prepared for my albums release. I have to find some time to make it
happen. My site right now is a tree with many branches to other sites. It's different from other sites
because it has more variety and connects to so many other forums. I really have it set up as a poetic
free for all

The RBM: You've released your first book "The Blood Of My Pen" last year and you were
working on your second. You also have an album coming out soon, in addition, you represent
new authors and you are part of the management team of a record label. What do you get
personally out of working so much, staying busy and what else do you have going on that I
may have left out?
Cold August: Well I'm just trying to finish some solid projects that I can all push at the same time.
Basically I'm going to push "The Blood Of My Pen", POPIPHANY ( My solo audio debut) and my
second book called "Cold in April ". My Cd has been a lot of work because I have a label backing me
and we have been meticulously fine tuning it. As of today the Cd is officially done and I'll be leaking
(in a few weeks) out some first copies before my worldwide release in April. Other projects I'm
working on is the production on a inspirational hip hop artist name K-jils album

The RBM: Your name, Poet Of Pain, has significance, can you explain what your name
means to those who don't know?
Cold August: Poet of Pain came from a old rap verse of mine " Poet of Pain like Kurt Cobain,
taking out these plagues like God's rain". The name is basically a homage to the fallen Nirvana
singer. I felt musically alive when I heard his heart come through his lyrics. They called him the
Poet of Pain in article when he died. So that's when I carried the torch... and was born.

The RBM: Who are some of your favorite authors and which ones inspire you?
Cold August: To be honest, Noboby.

The RBM: You are also a huge science fiction fan. I remember reading and you telling me
how much of a "Star Wars" fan you are? What is it about that movie genre that captures
your attention and interest?
Cold August: Well Star Wars will always represent the wonder and innocence of my youth. My
childhood was very fun and imaginative. The theme is "may the force be with you" and that's
basically what faith is.

The RBM: Last year you were writing a script for a movie but for a few different reasons,
that production was placed on hold. What did you learn from writing a story rather than in
the poetry form that the Community here in Mecca and the other sites that you visit are
used to reading from you?
Cold August: Well one thing I've learned is that it takes time. The label that I'm with are the same
people that wrote the screenplay with me. I just created the characters and the story but they did the
script. We're going to try to shoot gain summer of 2007 according to how much money we make
from our Cds. By stepping out beyond poetry I realize that I have a knack for creating character
arcs and stories. I loved writing that movie.

The RBM: Since you've been writing, how have you grown, not just artistically but as a
person?
Cold August: I've learned how to express myself a lot better since I've been writing. It helps me be
quiet and hear from God

The RBM: Who are you currently reading?
Cold August: I really love reading my peers on poetry forums especially Mecca and BPC (The
Black Poetry Cafe).

The RBM: You've been a part of Mecca since before Mecca and yourself, Rhyme Cypha, and
Blac-Sol all have books currently available. How important is it for other writers to begin on
underground writing sites like Mecca, KC Poets, The BPC, etc? Would you recommend that
route to writers?
Cold August: YES YES YES! Because the writers on these forums are really serious about their
craft and are very supportive. It's great to build a fan base on them. Hey I worked my way up to
being best male poet of the year for 2006, so my online grind payed off.

The RBM: What are some of the other hobbies you have outside of writing?
Cold August: I love being in the recording studio, going to the movies, and spending time with my
family.

The RBM: Finally, what would you say to those visitors and Mecca Community Members
reading this interview?
Cold August: I would like to say before anything put God first. You are just a vessel for the talents
that he placed in you. Always stay humble, do this art to connect and heal people, and for not the
glory. Whatever craft you're into take it seriously and finish what you start. Thank you Mecca.
