Get To Know MelodiChaos
The RBM: How long have you been writing?
MelodiChoas: I have been writing since I can remember. Although I wasn't always writing under
the poetry genre I think I was born a writer. From the time I was very young I liked to write short
stories, long stories, poetry, just about anything.

The RBM: What inspires you to write?
MelodiChoas: I gain inspiration from almost anything to write. From events that take place in my
life, both to me and around me, to nature, even the way the air might smell on a summers night,
seeing a smile on someone’s face, nostalgia, pain, the list is nearly endless. Funny that the majority
of the pieces I write never see the outside of a notebook, but I am inspired by everything that God
created.

The RBM: Who is your favorite author? Why?
MelodiChoas: Maybe its conventional, but Langston Hughes is my favorite well-known author. I
have enjoyed his works for years and they have always spoken to me. I have always felt a
connection to the things that he wrote about for some reason. Also, there is a spoken word poet that
goes to my school and his work is absolutely phenomenal on all levels. Although he is not famous
(yet) I have to give him regards. Some may find it difficult to write but he has both the written depth
and a powerful presentation to emphasize his talent.

The RBM: In your spare time, what are some things that you like to do?
MelodiChoas: In my spare time, outside of the obvious (writing) I enjoy reading, going to cultural
events, being with friends and family, watching movies, or just having a little bit of personal time.

The RBM: Growing up who was your inspiration? What about now?
MelodiChoas: Growing up, my grandmother was definitely my inspiration. She is the woman that I
aspire to be, the lady that I want to grow into. My grandmother and I have a particularly special
relationship because of the dynamics of our family. She and I are very much alike in ways, us both
being Aquarius’ but outside of that she has lead a life characterized by love for God, compassion for
her people, concer for her community, dedication to her family and has always stood for what was
right and just even when times were most difficult. She has been more to me than a mother, more to
me than a father, more to me than a friend, more to me than I can even express. I thank God for her
daily because He knew that she was just who I needed to make it through. Today, I would have to
say that she is still my greatest inspiration alongside of the Lord whose infinite wisdom played a part
in creating even her.

The RBM: Do you eventually want to be published?
MelodiChoas: Some of my writings have already been published in local media so I have already
been blessed to have had the opportunity to share my thoughts abroad. While I am not against being
published, if the opportunity presents itself and I feel it is something that I should do then I will
certainly seize the chance, but I don’t believe I will actively seek publication. Who knows though, I’
m still young and someday I just might be given a word that the world needs to hear.

The RBM: To those who don't know you, how would you describe your writing style?
MelodiChoas: My writing style is always evolving. One day I’ll be in a particular mood and feel like
rhyming so I will, the next I’ll feel more free-form and just write whatever comes out. Sometimes I
write in story form or just throw things together and see what I come up with. Writing is a true
exercise for me, working different parts of my literary faculties at different moments to hopefully,
someday, write something that comes out half way decent by my own standards. I suppose a lot of
my personality shows through in my writing; very laid back, relaxed, my mind being here and there
and nowhere all at the same time.

The RBM: How would you describe your personality?
MelodiChoas: I happen to think I have many facets to my personality, but in the interest of not
penning my autobiography I will keep it short. I would describe myself firstly as passionate. The
things that have value to me are very important to me and are not to be played with. God, my family,
school and my friends more specifically. These are things in my life that I have learned not to take
for granted and see them all as blessings. I try my best to show appreciation for all things, but
especially for these. Secondly, I am laid back. When its not work time, its play time and I love to
laugh, chill, hang out, do whatever as long as it is relaxing. I don’t like chaos in my life and try to
avoid it as best I can whether it come in the form of people, problems or places. I try to maintain a
peaceful atmosphere within myself and around myself. Lastly, I would say that I am compassionate.
This is something that I am working on with myself and everyday I try to reach out to someone
new, meet a new person, give a kind word, offer a helping hand... anything really. You honestly
never know the difference you can and do make not only in someone else’s day but in their life. I try
never to be too busy to offer a good word to someone who needs one because, who knows, you
may be saving a life. Keep in mind though, these are my opinions of myself.... other people might
have a different story to tell . Overall, I know that I am far from perfect so I would say finally that
while I may be striving to be all these things, I’m not quite the Me that God sees in me and so at the
end of the day I’m still a Work in Progress. If you read my signature it touches on this idea although
it goes a little deeper than that as well.

The RBM: Currently in college, what are you currently going to school to be?
MelodiChoas: Well I am a biologist and I will be going to med school in the Fall of 2008 to become
a genetics research counselor or a neurologist.

The RBM: What CD is in your stereo right now?
MelodiChoas:  Windows Media Player is great because I don’t even need the CD to listen to music
but right now I am listening to Fred Hammond and India Arie.

The RBM: To the Community Members and visitors reading this interview, what would you
like to say to them?
MelodiChoas: Firstly, thank you for reading this interview, I appreciate the time you took out to
“get to know” me a little bit more. My time here at Mecca has truly been and will hopefully continue
to be, well spent. I look forward to using this as a learning and growing forum as I learn from
everyone on this site and grow to be a better writer. Thank You.
