Get To Know Reeses
The RBM: The first day I met you in AAP a little more than a year ago, you said to
"watch out for me". To those who don't know, what does that mean and has the
definition changed since then?
Reeses: I remember that (lol). That was honestly my way of wanting to be recognized as a
writer who is new to the game. I tried to put something that would catch someone's eye and I
did. But now, I realize that you shouldn't have to try to force people in; your work should speak
for itself.

The RBM: As a writer, how much have you grown since then? As a person?
Reeses: As a writer I believe I have grown in a positive way because of the influence I receive.
I realize that my pieces come out more mature since last year. As a person, I notice how I have
to "grow up" each and every day. I just started back school and as a senior, there are major
things that you have to take responsibility for. And the type of person I am, I really have to
prepare myself for the hardships. So entering adulthood has been a big reality to me and
becoming one is even a bigger shock. But lately I have grown to accept things and what they are.

The RBM: Do you still plan on publishing your work?
Reeses: Yes I do plan on publishing. Actually that is the only thing in my future that I'm
absolute about. I always dream of having my work available on bookshelves for people to enjoy
and appreciate.

The RBM: Who influences Reeses as a person? How does this person/people help you?
Reeses: Influence is such a strong word and I have plenty of it. I can actually feel when God
gives me a line because it's in the most unexpected places. And I know that I'm supposed to use
it because I would never forget no matter how long I take to write it down. I also am in love
with the person that I believe God has sent to me personally. My boyfriend and I are each
other's inspiration. There was a time when he and I were having a conversation and I felt
something coming in my head. So I just told him to keep talking and about two minutes later, I
produced one of the best poems I've ever written. It was like a freestyle that he gave to me by
the sound of his voice. I feature that poem soon (My Vow to You)

The RBM: Who is your favorite author? Why?
Reeses: I truly don't have a favorite. But lately I've been reading Omar Tyree. He is just too real
to me. He has a way of putting things that I relate to or I'm just attracted to.

The RBM: In your spare time, what do you do for fun?
Reeses: Well when I do have extra time, I like to do simple things. I'm a big movie watcher.
Not in theaters, but at home movies that I've probably seen over and over again. I like to spend
time with my boyfriend a lot and with his family- we always have a good time. Once in a while,
my close friends and I would catch up to a party to act crazy and get loose (lol). But I don't do
anything out of the extraordinary.

The RBM: If you could describe yourself in five words to those who don’t know you,
which words would you use?
Reeses: Emotional. Humble. Humorous. Hopeful. Human.

The RBM: How often do you write?
Reeses: I’m not a person who has to write a piece every day just because I love to write. When
I get that click in my head to go write and create, that's when I'll do it. that may happen every
couple of weeks and maybe even months before I write again. It all depends on the feeling that
comes to me.

The RBM: As a career what do you hope to do?
Reeses: At this point, I hope to become a psychiatrist. Now when I tell people that I know this,
they always say, " How can crazy help those who are crazy?" They think it's funny every time
but anyway... I can see myself treating those who are mentally ill. And getting into that
profession, I plan on writing a book on the mind of a black man and his feelings on religion. I
know that sounds odd but I got the idea "surprisingly" from my boyfriend. So just in case, look
out for that!

The RBM: What are you currently reading?
Reeses: The novel that I'm in the process of reading is Omar Tyree's Cold Blooded. The story
line is of a contract killer who is also a womanizer. He then meets a girl who he reveals his
career to and she is along for the ride. Very good so far. I'm also trying to improve on reading
the bible at least three to four time a week to stay up on things with God.

The RBM: Living in Florida, ever been in a hurricane? If so, how is it to actually go
through one?
Reeses: There have been many hurricane watches that my family have been in he middle of.
The only good thing about hurricane season is that school is out. But the worse parts are no
electricity. Making sure you are in a stable home or shelter and having food and water and
clothing are the only responsibilities you have. Also having enough common sense to evacuate in
time to save your life is also important. I'm thankful that my family has never suffered any
damage to our home or ourselves in he midst of the dangerous season. Most of the time we're
probably playing games with flashlights so we can see.

The RBM: If you could be anyone else for one day, who would you be and why?
Reeses: If I could be anyone for a day I would want to be Maya Angelou. She is such a
respected writer and I would want to feel the difference that I make in people's lives because of
what I write. I know she gets a good sense everyday of how she has made it though life and has
come out on top. To me she is an inspiration to young writers and I would love to walk in her
shoes right now.

The RBM: Finally, to those reading this interview, what do you wanna say to them?
Reeses: Thank you for supporting what I love and accepting my very own style of writing.
You all who have read any pieces of mine I hope you have enjoyed and not just felt like you had
to leave a response to make me feel warm inside. But whatever happens in my future writing
career, you will be the people I shout out for sure. Thank you a lot for wanting to get to know
me because I can't wait to get to know some of you. Peace.

An Example Of Reese's Writing

SUMMER OF '06
I've been missing you.
Wishing you were here
just appear in front of me
bundle me in me your arms
where no harm can come

I desire you
i perspire too
when I get hot
no I'm not crazy
it's just you're amazing
and your love keeps me blazing

I've been wanting you
it's taunting too when I think
that if I blink you'll be there
and where ever we may be
I surely wouldn't want to leave

I dream of you
and it seems so true
when a vision of us
thrusts into my mind
I find some kind of
smile on my lips every time

I'm needin' you
to where I'm pleadin' to
see the part of me
which is definitely the
truth of love and the
proof that it's you the one I'm thinking of
