Get To Know Resonance
The RBM: How long have you been writing?
Resonance: I've been writing since 7th grade but actually writing to be heard for almost two and a
half years.

The RBM: What do you think makes your writing unique from other writers?
Resonance: I want to say that I write for myself. But I don't. My writing is different because I
think that I write specifically to move all who read or hear me. I want all who hear or read my
pieces to be moved at the core of who they think they are and at the core of what they think they
believe. This is the driving force of my pen.

The RBM: What do you find yourself using writing for?
Resonance: Simply to move and empower people. Some people live to write. I write to live!

The RBM: In your introduction you posted when joining Mecca, you mentioned that you live
in Kansas City. What do you enjoy most about living there? I also read that you are looking
to relocate (smile). What do you like least about living in K.C.?
Resonance: I love the poetry community here. They are family to me. What I very much dislike is
frame of mind of the people here and their lack of culture and open-mindedness. I'm sick of living in
the buckle of the bible belt.

The RBM: What is your favorite writing genre?
Resonance: How often do you write? I write every day. I really don't have a favorite. I'm to diverse
of an artist to pigeon hole my art.

The RBM: What are some of the things that you like to do besides writing?
Resonance: Knowledge is power. I love movie and art. I'm also an avid music lover and
saxophonist or over 17 years. I love doing open mics as well.

The RBM: Growing up, who were some influences in your life and how did they influence
you? Do they influence you now?
Resonance: Obviously. I was not who I am now, growing up. My biggest lyrical influences are
Pac, Rakim, Black Thought, Kweli, Mos Def, Dead Prez, Marley, Lauryn Hill, Abyss and Mike
Shinoda. But an initial influence for me to pick up a pen and start scribing my soul was my 7th grade
english teacher. Him, I am eternally thankful to.

The RBM: Who is your favorite author? What is it about their words that inspire you?
Resonance: I love Alex Haley (Malcolm X). This was such a powerful book. I also love George
Orwell (1984). Orwell just wrote such prophetic books in my opinion that have moved me to my
core. I also love Toni Morrison. I love anything by 3rd World Press
