Get To Know Sleepless Beauty
The RBM: Who inspires you to be who you are? What does this/these person/people do to
inspire you?
Sleepless: My inspiration comes from a lot of places. Africa, and everything that has taken
place is a very big inspiration. It is pretty near impossible for me to figure out exactly where I
came from in the different parts of Africa, but writing about it, and learning about Africa has
given me comfort. My siblings inspire me a lot, just from what they say, and do. My mother and
Father are huge inspirations, because they teach my basically everything. My parents know so
much, but they still have not finished living their lives, and I am old enough now to understand
the mistakes that they make, and we all can learn from them. They make me strong.
The RBM: What do your friends and family think about your abilities to write and
express yourself?
Sleepless: My friends didn't even know that I write! They just knew I was really good in
English class. Most of my friends are not concerned with the types of things I am concerned
about, but they like my writing. My parents think that I have talent, and they seem to be proud,
and My Aunt wants my to gather my work, and start looking to be published. A lot of the people
around me have no idea that I write, but they will soon I hope!
The RBM: How many brothers/sisters do you have?
Sleepless: I have one younger sister who is 14. Her name is Kelly. She also writes a little bit,
and it's pretty unique I'd say. I also have a baby brother named Kevon. He is 11 months old now.
The RBM: How long have you been writing and what does writing do for you?
Sleepless: I first started writing poems when I was around 9 years old, but I really started
getting into it when I was 15. Writing has given me so much joy. I love how it feels to write all
my feelings, and thoughts down onto paper, and have it turn into something enjoyable to read.
It's something personal, and no one else has to understand what I say, but I know what it's
about, and writing it down gives me that feeling of accomplishment. When I finish something, it
feels like really good, and it makes me want to accomplish more. Enjoying that feeling of
accomplishment sets me up for accomplishment else where in my life. I like to connect with
people, and writing has given me the ability to connect with people I otherwise wouldn't make a
connection with. Writing just feels amazing.
The RBM: What effect has the other writers here in Mecca had on you if any?
Sleepless: Before I found out about The Mecca Lounge, I was on a writing treadmill. Running
and running, but really never getting anywhere. Now that I am starting to settle in here, I feel
that my writing could one day allow me to step off the treadmill, and actually run marathons.
Everyone here has made me feel welcome, and the atmosphere here is comfortable, and
inspirational. I look at all the great work, and writers, and I feel I can learn a lot. All the positive
feedback I receive, when I share something, helps to feed the writing fire. Being a part the
Mecca has made me want create more! I always look for constructive criticism, and a writing
community, like this one, is just what I need to spread my creative wings.
The RBM: What do you like most about our Community? Least?
Sleepless: What I like most about this Community is the ease of use, and all the kind,
supportive people. This forum was a breeze to get used to, and anyone who comes here, can
easily learn the basics. The FAQ is very helpful, and everything in the forum moves at a
reasonable pace. I like how there is active members, so it doesn't take weeks for people to reply.
All the members have shown me nothing but kindness. Everyone here is so helpful and
supportive. They made my experience here very enjoyable. As for what I like least about the
Mecca, I can't say there is much that I do not like.
The RBM: If you could say anything to visitors reading this, what would you say to them?
Sleepless: What I'd Like to say to all the visitors is, if they are looking for a place where they
can share there creative writing, feel welcome, and appreciated, The Mecca Lounge is the
perfect place. This site is a great way to get some inspiration, experience some awesome talent,
and help build up your abilities. I am enjoying being a part of this, and I know that anyone who
joins us would enjoy it as well.
