Get To Know Toledo Sweeteness
The RBM: You've written that you have been writing since the age of 14. How has your
writing changed since you began writing?
Toledo Sweetness: I actually started writing comics when I was 12, and then writing poetry at
14 but became more serious these last couple years. I'm presently learning how to write short
stories and how to get them published. I've learned how to use everyday life situations in my
writing.
The RBM: Has the reasons for writing changed for you since you started?
Toledo Sweetness: No, I write because I enjoy it. There's a feeling that one gets when they do
something that they can be proud of and I get that feeling every time I'm writing.
The RBM: You also write that you registered into the Long Ridge Writers Group
sometime last year. How has that experience changed your ability to write? Has it helped
you or hurt you? Would you suggest that someone who's hoping to get better enroll in a
writing school?
Toledo Sweetness: It has taught me how to create characters, how to use life situations to create
stories, and how important revising is. I think it has helped me and I would suggest that if
someone wanted to improve their skills that they should enroll in a writing school.
The RBM: Who is your favorite author? Why?
Toledo Sweetness: Stephen King. His imagination---the stories that he comes up with. He is a
very talented writer.
The RBM: Favorite book?
Toledo Sweetness: Carrie
The RBM: Do you have any children? If so, can you tell the rest of the Community about
him/her?
Toledo Sweetness: Yes, I have two girls (13 & 10) and a boy (7). My one daughter wants to be
a singer--she is in choir at her school. My other daughter wants to be an artist---she has been
drawing since she was 4 and is very good. My son is a normal boy who enjoys basketball and
football.
The RBM: Other than writing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Toledo Sweetness: Whatever spare time I have, I spend it with my kids.
The RBM: Growing up, who influenced you?
Toledo Sweetness: My mom---she always had faith in god no matter what was going wrong---
and everything turned out fine. She is a very strong soul.
The RBM: What is your favorite food?
Toledo Sweetness: Mexican food
The RBM: What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
Toledo Sweetness: I dropped out of school my junior year but got my GED. I took two years of
community college.
The RBM: If you had to promote Toledo Ohio to someone, what would you say they "Had"
to do if they visited for a weekend?
Toledo Sweetness: First, they should catch a game at the Mud Hens stadium, check out all the
cool stuff at Cosi, and then maybe check out the baby elephant at the Toledo Zoo.
The RBM: Finally, to those Community Members and visitors of our Community reading
this interview, what would you like to say to them?
Toledo Sweetness: I've finally found a place to call home Thanks everybody for your support.

dreams beyond our reach
trapped behind closed doors
driven with passion---ready to explode
release your love---let it pour
reach for what’s not insight
grab it
hold on tight
