Get To Know Undefeated
The RBM: How long have you been writing?
Undefeated: I have been writing since I was about 9 years old. I wrote a Haiku poem for Art Break.
I actually won first place
The RBM: Does "Undefeated" have any special significance, or was it just a random name
you chose?
Undefeated: Yes it sure does. The years 2005-2006 have been rough years for me, but no matter
what happened I still came out on top. I am a survivor...a fighter...I refuse to be defeated.
The RBM: Other than poetry, do you write in any other genres?
Undefeated: I write short stories sometimes.
The RBM: Favorite author? Why?
Undefeated: Lerone Bennett....wrote The Challenge of Blackness
The RBM: What do you do in your spare time other than writing?
Undefeated: I teach the Children’s Church at my church ages 3 to 5. They teach me a lot about
myself really. I am a full-time mother and college student so the majority of my time is spent with
my daughter or my school books.
The RBM: Who are your favorite authors and what about their work draws you to their
work?
Undefeated: There are so many authors that I like. Most of them are urban writers. Mary Monroe
(God Don't Like Ugly) is one of my favorites. She have a way of catching my attention with her
words and keeping them there.
The RBM: If you could meet one person, past or present (other than Jesus -smile-) who
would it be and why?
Undefeated: I'd want to meet Oprah Winfrey...to let her know what an inspirational person she is
and also Tyler Perry for that same reason.
The RBM: Okay, if you COULD meet Jesus, what would you ask him (if anything)?
Undefeated: This might sound silly, but I would like to walk on water like Peter. I would really just
like to spend some alone time with him. That's comforting! LOL!
The RBM: Do you hope to be published?
Undefeated: One day I would, but for now I write for pleasure.
The RBM: Who influenced you growing up?
Undefeated: My mother. She is a single mother and was always there to help me out. Even now
with my daughter, she is most helpful.
The RBM: Finally, what would you like to say to those reading this interview?
Undefeated: It is something that I read a long time ago. I live by these words when it comes to
talking to people. When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
Proverbs 10:19
The mouth can be used either as a weapon or a tool, hurting relationships or building them up.
Sadly, it is easier to destroy then to build, and most people have received more destructive
comments than those that build up. Every person you meet today is either or demolition site or a
construction opportunity. Your words will make a difference. Will they be weapons for destruction
or tools for construction?
